Providing Comprehensive Environmental Services for North America
The following outlines Clean Harbors' steps to keep employees, their families, our customers, and the general public informed about the Avian Influenza, measures that can be taken should an outbreak occur, along with the steps the company is taking to ensure the business continues to operate if a pandemic were to happen. Frequently asked questions, links to additional information, and other pertinent information will be posted regularly.
This message addresses a growing international health concern and is intended to be informative only. There is much concern in the world today regarding what is known as the bird flu or avian flu. We are hearing terms such as epidemic and pandemic, and every day there are experts theorizing where the next outbreak may occur and the subsequent impact on the health and well being of individuals globally. While there is no reason to panic, as a corporation and as individuals, we need to be informed about and prepared for events such as this. We take very seriously our responsibility to protect the health and safety of our employees. We also have a significant role to play in limiting the negative impact on the economy and to society.
Clean Harbors formed an internal team that is tasked with becoming knowledgeable about avian flu and developing our strategy and preparedness should an outbreak occur. This team includes senior management, health and safety personnel, key field operations personnel with emergency response experience, and our corporate medical consultant. We will add other key personnel and outside resources as necessary.
Our goals are to provide information on personal and family practices that will assist in preventing infection, minimizing contamination and identifying emergency procedures, and to develop a contingency plan to remain operational if such a situation should occur. Clean Harbors would be an integral and necessary part of the government's response to such an emergency. As the details of our planning efforts are available, we will communicate them to you.
While we are all hopeful that our preparedness may never be challenged, it is far more prudent to plan now and anticipate actions that may be necessary.
