Providing Comprehensive Environmental Services for North America
Cylinders that contain Carbonyl Chloride (Phosgene), a highly toxic, liquefied, compressed gas, are required to be leak checked prior to being offered for transportation.
Clean Harbors cylinder specialists have the experience and training needed to successfully leak check each cylinder containing Phosgene when it is offered for transportation. Specifically, it must be completely immersed in a bath of water, without the protection cap attached, at a temperature of approximately 150°F for at least thirty minutes. During that time, frequent examinations must be made to note any escape of gas. Provisions must be made to safely deal with an emergency, should one occur. The valve of the cylinder must not be loosened after this test and before the cylinder is offered for transportation or transported.
